Warm up your voice, young ladies. Polish up those tap shoes and start looking for an evening gown. The annual Scotts Bluff County Fair Scholarship Pageant is preparing to take center stage.

The pageant committee will have an orientation and registration for any girl interested in participating in this year’s event. That orientation will take place Wednesday, July 1, at 7 p.m. at the First National Bank building in Gering, across from the county courthouse.

“This orientation will be helpful to those interested in competing in the Aug. 1 Scotts Bluff County Fair Pageant,” said Pageant Director Cheryl Engelhaupt.

The pageant features two divisions: the “Miss” category for girls between the ages of 16-19 and the “Teen” division for girls between the ages of 13-15.

Engelhaupt said the winner in the Miss division receives a $1,000 scholarship, while the winner of the Teen Division receives $200 that goes towards her entry fee to the state competition for the Miss Nebraska Outstanding Teen. “Other monies will be awarded to the first and second places as well and a talent and interview award in each division,” she said.

During the orientation, members of the pageant committee will visit with the girls and present information to them about areas of competition, interview, personal application, talent, evening gown and stage presence.

“We are now a qualifying state pageant with the Miss America system and by winning the title of Miss Scotts Bluff County, the young lady is given the opportunity to compete at Miss Nebraska,” Engelhaupt said.

Winning the title of Scotts Bluff County Teen entitles the young lady to compete in the Miss Nebraska Outstanding Teen competition at state.

Parents are encouraged to attend to orientation.

The application deadline is July 15. Applications can be picked up at the Customer Service Desk at Monument Mall in Scottsbluff, the First National Bank in Gering or by visiting the pageant Web site at scottsbluffcountyfair.net.

For additional information, contact Engelhaupt at (308) 783-2940.
