An Alliance woman died from injuries she suffered after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck a pickup at a railroad crossing near Alliance, Saturday.
Lois Behm, 78, of Alliance, died at a Denver hospital after being transported from Regional West Medical Center. Behm had been transported to the Scottsbluff hospital after AirLink responded to the scene of the accident.
Behm had been a passenger in a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup being driven by Don Behm, 82, of Alliance, Trooper Justin Krein said. Don Behm had been traveling northbound at a private railroad crossing off Highway 2 near mile marker 94 when an eastbound train struck his vehicle. The accident occurred 10 miles east of Alliance shortly after 10 a.m.
Krein said the crash is still under investigation. He said further details were not being released. The crossing did not have crossing arms, but is marked with a stop sign.
Don Behm, who was also transported by AirLink to Regional West Medical Center, remains hospitalized. He is listed in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Behm’s vehicle was totaled.
