Who couldn’t use an extra set of wheels?

Something good on gas to take you back and forth to work. Or maybe you have a teenager that needs a school car. You want something dependable, but light on the pocket book. It doesn’t get much lighter than free.

The Hemingford High School FFA Chapter will be holding its annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed and Fish Fry at the multipurpose hall located on the Box Butte County Fairgrounds this Friday, March 9. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and anyone purchasing a ticket will automatically have the chance to win such a vehicle.

This is the fourth year in a row that the FFA has offered a car as its big door prize. The car giveaway was devised as a way to attract attendees to the event and it has worked, with attendance growing every year.

Hemingford FFA Sponsor Gordon Karney said, “No it isn’t a new car but the body, tires and interior are all in real good shape and it’s mechanically sound. It would make a great work or school car. The entry for the car drawing is free with your meal ticket and you must be present to win.

The vehicle is an older model Lincoln Towncar. It is white with grey interior. Those interested can take a look at the car while it sits on display outside of the Hemingford Fire Hall.

The meal itself will consist of your choice of Rocky Mountain Oysters or fish with sides of potato salad, baked beans and a drink. Meal tickets are $8 per person.

Other events for the evening included the Hemingford FFA Hired Hand for a Day Auction and a project auction. During the Hired Hand auction, the winning bidder will receive a full-day of labor from one FFA member. The project auction will feature projects made by Ag students in the high school shop.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the local FFA chapter allowing them to make trips to such events as the Denver Livestock Show and the annual officer’s retreat, as well as helping them purchase supplies for future projects.

Tickets for the event will be sold at the door, but with a limited amount of seating individuals may want to reserve theirs by contacting any member of the Hemingford FFA Chapter or Karney at the Hemingford High School number, 487-3328.
