If you live in the Hemingford area and are planning to have a yard sale this summer, there will be no better opportunity than June 2. The Hemingford Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the annual Hemingford Community-Wide Yard Sale that day, and there are still a few days to get signed up.
Over the last few years, the event has averaged 40 registered sales drawing shoppers from the surrounding area. To register a sale, stop by The Ledger or Hemingford Community Federal Credit Union by Monday, May 28. The cost is $15 for a single-family sale, and an additional $10 for each additional family participating in a multi-party listing. Each registered sale receives $5 in Hemingford Chamber Bucks, which can be spent at any Hemingford Chamber of Commerce member business. Each registered sale also receives a Community-Wide Yard Sale poster, identifying the sale as an official participant.
While the Chamber of Commerce cannot prevent residents from holding non-registered yard sales that day, it is frowned upon. The Chamber encourages shoppers to support the registered sales, identified by the official poster and listing in advertising in The Ledger. The Community-Wide Yard sale is not a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce. The registration fees are used to promote the yard sale in the newspaper and on the radio, in hopes of drawing people into town for the event.
A listing of all registered sales, as of Tuesday, May 22, is included in this edition of The Ledger. A complete listing will be included in the May 31 Ledger edition. Maps, marking the locations of registered sales will also be available in a marked machine located in front of The Ledger on the day of the sale.
