A “Help Wanted” sign is hanging on the door of a new Chinese buffet restaurant that is slated to open this week.

The King Buffet at 405 West 27th Street is looking for about 10 more waiters and waitresses to help keep the food trays as full as possible. Manager John Chen said the restaurant opens Wednesday and a grand opening is being planned for later on.

“We are pretty excited to move to a new location,” Chen said. “We think we could double the size of our business.”

Chen and his family have been living in Scottsbluff for 15 years. They moved here and opened their China Buffet restaurant at 1508 E. 20th Street. Chen said that location is now closed and he is focusing entirely on the new store.

With more than 20 years experience in Chinese buffet cooking, Chen said Head Chef Joe Chen and all of King Buffet’s cooking staff received training on the East Coast. He said the many years of combined experience and good customer service has earned a favorable position in the community.

“We have a pretty good reputation from my past at China Buffet,” Chen said. “We have a lot of returning customers.”

In addition to all of the Chinese food options previously offered at China Buffet, Chen said King Buffet will expand its seafood options with a sushi bar, cheese mussels, salmon and Korean seafood. The new restaurant also features a private party room and new takes on poultry dishes like, coconut, honey or salt and pepper chicken.

To keep the food fresh every day, a truck will deliver supplies daily from either Lincoln or Denver. Chen said it is an easy service to offer to a community that has treated his family so well.

“We like Scottsbluff because the people are friendlier than any of other places we have been,” Chen said.

King Buffet will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For takeout orders and more information, call 308-632-8822.
