A Scottsbluff couple charged with child abuse vowed in court that they will keep trying to get their children back.

Last week, new charges were filed against Carlos Herrera, 35, and his wife, Jennifer Herrera, 29. The couple had been charged with felony child abuse charges in allegations stemming from an October 2011 call to the Nebraska Child Abuse Hotline. The initial charges were dismissed on Sept. 19 after authorities spent nearly a year preparing for trial and more stringent charges were filed. Both Herreras now face charges of child abuse resulting in serious injury, a Class II felony.
