HAY SPRINGS — A Hay Springs couple has been sentenced in federal court for attempting to defraud the government of nearly $49 million.
David L. Kleensang, 61, and Bernita M. Kleensang, 59, claimed they filed false tax returns to “get justice” for district court judgments. The couple were accused and convicted of seeking millions in fraudulent tax refunds, according to U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg’s office. On Monday, the Kleensangs were sentenced to six years in federal prison.
