Grief counselors were on hand Monday at Gering High School as students mourned a Gering teen killed Sunday.
Mikal D. Orozco, 17, of Gering, died Sunday morning after a train struck her vehicle at the 21st Avenue crossing. Orozco had been driving southbound on 21st Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. when she apparently attempted to drive around down crossing arms. An eastbound train struck the passenger side of Orozco’s vehicle. She was later pronounced dead at Regional West Medical Center.
