Local man leaves behind legacy of collaboration
In October 2005, Jim Merrigan, left, met Dr. Habiba Sarabi, governor of Bamiyan, and Thomas E. Gouttierre, dean of International Studies and Programs and director of Afghanistan Studies at UNO. The late Merrigan was a man that looked for different solutions in assisting the Afghan people.

We get some interesting letters from time to time. We've had U.S. senators and Nebraska governors comment on our coverage or opionions. But earlier this week, the Star-Herald received a letter from former First Lady Laura Bush regarding the efforts of Jim Merrigan, who worked endlessly to support the Afghan people. It ran on Thursday's Opinion page.
