Oil boom shakes up Fort Laramie

FORT LARAMIE, Wyo. — Guernsey isn’t getting  a new oil depot. Fort Laramie is, and that’s creating concerns about how it will affect agriculture and tourism for the community and its 230 residents.

Weird things happen in this world, and one of them occurred early this year when a press release issued to some Wyoming media indicated that a railroad oil loading facility would be built near Guernsey. But it became a reality at least 15 miles east, snug up against the small hamlet of Fort Laramie.
