Free File now available, can help with tax breaks

Nebraskans will pay less tax this year than in 2008, but some may get a tax surprise

Updated: Last year, according to The Tax Foundation, Nebraskans worked 98 days to pay their taxes, working for the government until April 13, 2009. Even though the date is a full eight days earlier than 2008, Nebraskans still pay more in taxes than food, housing and clothing combined. While there are new credits available for some taxpayers, others, will find they owe more money than was withheld from their paychecks because of the government stimulus program.
