A 34-year-old recovering from a pancreas transplant at his mother’s home in Gering is doing well, he said this week.

Dave Nowatzke, who grew up in Gering, underwent a pancreas transplant Nov. 24. He spent three weeks in a North Platte hospital, recovering from the surgery meant to help curb his diabetes. Nowatzke has suffered from diabetes for much of his life,  said his mother, Vi Reitz.
