LYMAN - Selma Derr, 89, died Aug. 24, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Morrill with the Reverend Paul Cain officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the church or the Lyman Volunteer Fire Department.
Selma was born March 1, 1916, at Durham, Kan., the daughter of George and Katherine (Kreiger) Weitzel. She received her education at a parochial school in Kansas before the family moved to a farm north of Morrill. Selma was united in marriage to John Derr on April 22, 1934, in Harrisburg. The couple lived in Morrill before moving to Racine, Wis.
John and Selma returned to the area in 1941, settling in Lyman where Selma lived until her death. Selma worked at Couplematic for many years until retiring. She attended church in Lyman before transferring her membership to Trinity Lutheran Church in Morrill three years ago. She enjoyed visiting with her children, fishing, playing cards, knitting, and doing needlework. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Lyman.
She is survived by her sister Irene Billings of Racine; daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Ron DeVeny of Lyons, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Dianne Derr of Morrill, Ray and Linda Derr of Lyman, LeRoy and Karen Derr of Torrington and George Derr of Lyman; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-granddaughter.
Her parents, husband John, sons John, Jr. and David, three brothers, and one sister preceded her in death.
