The prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year was presented to Rachel Rawlings, a 2019 graduate at Gering High School. The scholarship was presented May 8 during a Chapter EV meeting by STAR chair Mary Winn.

Rawlings is the daughter of Brett and Martha Rawlings and was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter EV of Gering, Nebraska. Rawlings will attend either WNCC or UNK where she plans to study science education beginning this fall.

The P.E.O. STAR is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. Chapter. Thirty-seven graduating seniors from Nebraska are receiving STAR Scholarships this year.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded January 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women. There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada; each of those chapters was eligible to nominate a STAR scholarship candidate.
