The Gering B&C junior baseball team put together a good run in the B&C Steel baseball tournament, finishing runner-up to the Casper Crush over the weekend at Oregon Trail Park Stadium.

Gering B&C went 3-0 in pool play action, topping Alliance 6-5, Buckley 2-1, and then Wheatland 10-2. B&C then fell 14-0 to the Casper Crush in the championship contest.

B&C opened the tourney on Friday with two one-run wins. The Gering juniors pounded out 11 hits in the win over Alliance in dramatic fashion. Both teams struck in the first inning. Alliance scored once, while Gering answered with two. The big hits in the first were a double by Blake Green and a run-scoring double by Chris Snelling.

Gering went up 3-1 in the second on a Jarrod Beamon run-scoring single. The juniors then scored twice in the third for a 5-2 lead and added an insurance run in the fourth.

Green led the Gering offense with three hits, including a double and two runs scored.

Also notching two hits were Tristin Strauch Chris Snelling and Jarrod Beamon. Strauch and Snelling each scored a run. Snelling had a double and a RBI, while Beamon had an RBI.

Wiese picked up the pitching win, allowing five runs while striking out six.

The second game on Friday against Buckley started on Friday and was finished Sunday morning because of rain late Friday night. The B&C juniors received a strong pitching performance from Blake Green. Green tossed a complete game allowing just three hits and one run. Green struck out seven and walked two.

Offensively, Gering got the most of their two hits. Buckley struck first with a run in the third, but Gering tied the game in the fourth when Green walked and later came in to score on a Dalton Wiese sacrifice fly.

Gering won the game on a walk-off in the seventh. Michael Rico reached base on a sacrifice and advanced to third on two passed ball. With two outs, Rico scored the winning run on a dropped third strike for the winner.

B&C opened Sunday with a 1-hit pitching performance from Karsen Ryan and Chris Snelling in a 10-2 win over Wheatland. Ryan went 3 1/3 innings in striking out four while Snelling tossed the final 2/3 innings.

Gering trailed Wheatland 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The fourth inning saw B&C score nine runs on three hits to end the game via the 8-run rule.

Gering had seven hits in the contest. Green had three of the hits with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored. Snelling had a double with a RBI and two runs scored, while Strauch had a triple with a RBI.

B&C Steel then faced the Casper Crush in the championship game and after two innings it was a 1-0 contest in favor of Casper. The third inning changed the game as the Crush scored 13 times to go up 14-0 to win the game in three innings.

Casper’s 14 runs came on 12 hits with a double from Ty Volimar, and triples from Kaeden Wilcox and Jack Mortimer. Gering’s two pitchers walked just one batter in 28 batters faced.
