It’s a rare sight to see Head Librarian Deb Finley wearing a dress, but there she was, surrounded by friends and library patrons as they celebrated her 14 years of service to the Hemingford Public Library on Wednesday afternoon.

“This community has stood by me through cancer, and stuck up for me when people said we no longer need a library,” Finley said. “I’m just very grateful and thankful to everybody.”

Finley was hired as the head librarian in February 2004, an opportunity to live out the dream she’d had since high school. Over the years she has been the faithful steward of the library’s collection of more than 10,000 books.

Finley’s service to the community is greatly appreciated, and if you missed the party Wednesday, you still have an opportunity to stop in and wish her well. Her last day will be Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon.
