Devastating Friday, Saturday, Monday… thunderstorms accompanied by hail brought widespread crop damage and some property damage to the Panhandle. Hemingford received 1.94 inches of rain in 30 minutes Friday night at about 11:30, flooding the new residential area in Herron Addition to hub-deep on vehicles, lakes with waist deep holes in them on streets, and basements flooding when sewer lines baked up to chest high depth. Wheat, corn, beans and sugar beets were damaged in wide streaks across the county both Friday and Saturday, again on Monday in the evening storms generally moving southwest to northeast. Damage to house and business roofs, cars and particularly mobile homes and campers is being assessed. Crop damage runs the gamut from 10% to 100% losses.
