Thousands gathered near Laing Lake in Alliance on Thursday evening around dusk to watch the Annual Jaycees Firework Show. Spectacular colors filled the sky for onlookers to enjoy.

“I thought the show went very well,” said Alliance Jaycees member and Hemingford resident Nick Paradeis.

He and fellow Jaycees member Jess Wimmer head the fireworks show.

“The Jaycees team did a fantastic job of keeping the display going at a nice pace,” Paradeis said. “I thought we had a lot of great combinations of fireworks that kept the crowd engaged. We heard a lot of horns honking and cheers throughout the show.”

Earlier in the day it was looking like the weather wasn’t going to cooperate but the storm held off.

Alliance Jaycees members light the fireworks while the Alliance Fire Department monitors closely for safety. Chief Troy Shoemaker said that the show went well with no incidents to report.

A show like that runs around $8,000 and is purchased through Premier Pyrotechnics out of Missouri.

“We are always seeking donations towards the show,” Paradeis said.

Checks can be mailed to Alliance Jaycees at PO Box 421, Alliance, NE 69301. Donations can also be made by texting the word Fireworks to 243725.

The Jaycees have been hosting the firework show for over 30 years.

They are also in charge of the flags along main-street in Alliance on the holidays. The Jaycees are looking for new members all the time. Contact Miles Buskirk at 308-760-2256 for more information or if you are interested in becoming a member.
