TORRINGTON - The Goshen County AARP Community Action Group, in conjunction with AARP Wyoming and Torrington Senior Center, is presenting the movie “Catch Me If You Can” on Oct. 19, from 12:45-2:30 p.m. at the Torrington Senior Friendship Center at 216 East 19th Avenue.

The movie describes the life of Frank Abagnale, one of the most famous con-artists of the 20th century. As a young child, Frank idolized his father, who was in trouble with the IRS. Frank was devastated when his parents decided to divorce and ran away with from home with $25 in his checking account.

Frank had the fortune of looking much older than his young age and used this advantage to assume various jobs, eventually pretending to be a Pan Am pilot, doctor, teacher, and attorney — he even passed the Louisiana State Bar at age 19! He eventually cashed more than $4 million in bad checks.

From nearly the beginning of his life of crime, he is pursued by an FBI agent, Carl Hannity. As described, “what starts as a cat-and-mouse game becomes something akin to father-and-son.”

This intriguing movie, nominated for two Oscars, was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

The movie is presented free and open to the public. The afternoon includes free popcorn and movie snacks for attendees.
