Meth Space

A 41-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after 20-plus pounds of methamphetamine was found in a compartment beneath his car's dash.

Jose Rios of Garden Grove, California, was pulled over on Interstate 80 near mile marker 396 just after 10:46 a.m. Tuesday.

An officer thought Rios was following too closely to another car, said Captain Dan Houchin of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The reporting officer didn't think Rios' story "made a whole lot of sense," Houchin said, and began searching his vehicle.

The officer then noticed a compartment in the front of Rios' 2006 Honda Element. It held 22.5 pounds of what officers believe to be methamphetamine.

Rios was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver.
