New Nebraska baseball assistant Lance Harvell is 'excited to be a part of Husker nation'

Lance Harvell publicly bid good bye to Sam Houston State and hello to Nebraska as an assistant baseball coach Tuesday morning.

Harvell, who had already been known to be part of Will Bolt's new staff, announced his news on Twitter. He was the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at SHSU the last five seasons.

"End of an amazing chapter in our lives but onto the next," Harvell tweeted in part. "We could not be more excited to be a part of Husker nation and Nebraska baseball! I look forward to getting to Lincoln and getting to work!"

Harvell, who Sam Houston State coach Matt Deggs often called his "right-hand man," followed Deggs from Louisiana-Lafayette after serving as a volunteer assistant in 2013 and 2014, when the Ragin' Cajuns posted top-10 scoring offenses both years.

D1Baseball.com named Harvell the top recruiting coordinator in the Southland Conference in 2016. Sam Houston State qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2016 and 2017, with the latter squad reaching a super regional.

His team this year finished 31-25 and ranked 34th nationally in slugging percentage (.453).

Harvell was the recruiting coordinator and an assistant for Bolt at Texarkana College in 2010 and 2011. He is a former walk-on catcher at Texas A&M in 2005 and 2006 and later was a grad assistant with the Aggies under Rob Childress in 2008 and 2009. He has a wife, Courtney, and two young children, Bodie and Ellie.
