Gering rallies past Casper

CASPER, Wyo. — The Gering Platte Valley Companies senior legion baseball team rallied to split a doubleheader against Casper on Saturday in Casper, Wyoming.

After falling 5-4 in the first game, Gering scored seven runs in the final two innings to capture a 7-5 victory in game two.

Quinton Janecek, Jerod Balthazor and Ryley Hoke all drove in a pair of runs in Gering’s win. Hoke doubled for the only extra-base hit.

Riley Schanaman and Justin Scott scored two runs each.

Schanaman earned the win on the mound in relief of Jack Franklin. He tossed a perfect inning. Franklin allowed just two earned runs on five hits and struck out three in six innings of work.

In Saturday’s first game, Gering received two hits each from Janecek, Schanaman and Balthazor. Schanaman, Scott and Balthazor each drove in a run. Scoring a run each for Platte Valley Companies were Hoke, Brady Radzymski, Anthony Walker, and Keon Booker. Scott finished with a double.

Gering, now 8-4-1 on the season, will return to action in a doubleheader against the Buckley Bombers on Monday in Chappell. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
