Gering seniors register pair of wins in Chappell

The two wins improved Gering’s record to 20-9-1. Gering will play host to Bridgeport on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before getting a few days off for the Independence Day holiday. Gering will then host Ogallala at 3 p.m., Saturday.

Against Lexington, Gering wasted no time in jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead after one inning, taking advantage of five hits and five free bases. Quinton Janecek hit two doubles in the first frame as Gering batted around the order. Gering later added solo runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Lexington finally cracked the scoreboard in the third but couldn’t dig themselves out of the early hole.

Janecek, Riley Schanaman, and Keon Booker all added multi-hit games in the lopsided win. Janecek went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Schanaman added a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Booker went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

On the mound, Janecek continued his dominant performance, pitching a five-inning complete game, scattering nine hits but holding Lexington to just one earned run and striking out three.

In Sunday’s second game, Gering held on to an early lead against Buckley to pick up the 20th win of the season. PVC plated two first-inning runs before adding four in the third to go ahead 6-1. The Bombers stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the third Gering kept its grip on the lead. The teams traded runs in the fourth before Buckley inched within one run in the fifth.

Booker slammed the door on Buckley with a line-drive single to center that scored Riley Gaudreault and Schanaman, giving Gering the 9-6 lead.

Schanaman retired the Bombers in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to earn the complete-game win. Schanaman struck out four, while allowing nine hits and three earned runs.

Gaudreault led Gering at the plate with three hits and four runs. Justin Scott added a pair of hits and three RBI. Booker also drove in two. Jack Franklin, Schanaman also finished with a two-hit game for Gering.
