Junior Spartans shut out B&C Steel

Victor Hinojosa drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Alliance First National Spartans junior legion baseball team to a 10-0 shutout of Gering B&C Steel, Tuesday in Gering.

Alliance jumped out in front early with a three-run first inning. Hinojosa hit a line-drive single into center to score Kellen Muhr and Brantz Halouska to start the scoring. Then with two outs, Mario Garza hit a double that scored Chase King.

Both teams went scoreless in the second but the Spartans piled on six runs in the third, aided by three Gering errors, to give them a 9-0 lead. Chase Boyer hit a single in the fourth to score Jakob Callan to reach the 10-run rule, ending the game in five innings.

Along with Hinojosa, Garza added a two hit night with two doubles. Halouska scored two runs for the Spartans. On the mound, Caeson Clark allowed just two hits over five innings with seven strikeouts.

For Gering, Keigin Shapland and Ryan Johnston finished with the only hits. On the mound, Blake Green pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs and six hits. Chris Snelling pitched two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits.
