Luther Woullard returning to Pioneers

Luther Woullard raises the Expedition League trophy after the Pioneers’ 16-4 win over the Badlands Big Sticks last season.

The Western Nebraska Pioneers are getting another big boost to the already explosive offense tonight.

Luther Woullard, who was a star on the 2018 Expedition League Championship team, is back in a Pioneer uniform for the game tonight against the Hastings Sodbusters.

Woullard started with the Pioneers in June last season and helped the Pioneers capture the league title in August, with two 3-run home runs in the 2-game championship series against the Badlands Big Sticks.

Woullard nearly missed the postseason for the Pioneers, as he had to return back to the University of New Orleans for college orientation.

But with the help of head coach Jimmy Turk, Woullard was able to return to Gering just in time for the championship game and enjoyed raising the trophy in front of more than 1,000 fans at Oregon Trail Park Stadium.

First pitch for tonight's contest is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
