8-run inning powers Bombers past Sidney

BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport Bombers senior legion baseball team turned a one-run deficit in the bottom of the third inning into a 13-5 win against the Sidney Post 17 seniors, Tuesday night in Bridgeport.

The Bombers exploded for eight runs in the third inning before scoring one in the fourth and the fifth to end the game after five innings.

Bridgeport opened the big third inning with back to back singles from Josh Kruse and Brandon Neiger. After a walk loaded the bases, Ethan Eckhardt earned a four-pitch walk to score Kruse. Austin Wheeler was hit by a pitch to score Kole Bush to give Bridgeport the lead.

After a series of more errors and walks, Bridgeport held an 11-4 advantage before Sidney could escape the inning.

In the fourth, Jake Wallesen hit a double into left to score Alex Barnette. In the fifth, Dominic Russ earned a walk and advanced to third after two more walks. He then stole home to give Bridgeport the 13-5 lead, enough to end the game after five innings.

Wallesen and Eckhardt finished with two RBIs each for the Bombers. Kruse and Neiger added two-hit games.

For Sidney, Tommy Ellwanger hit a RBI double. Zach Holtz, Ben Hashman and Sam Hasman all finished with one RBI each.

On the mound, Neiger pitched five complete innings, allowing five unearned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts. Sidney sent four pitchers to the mound on Tuesday, with Glanz taking the loss, allowing eight earned runs on five hits over 2 1/3.
